That day of the year when I’m reminded about the FACT that life is unfair, then its over and there is void. And even the void is rather impermanent. We live in a stupid universe, where in, all matter decays and eventually becomes nothing.

So on my 42nd birthday, I tried to be happier by spending time with the children and tried not to think about the even worse FACTS that they too will someday be gone. And it may not be old age that takes them, but rather could be because some asshole new rich drunk guy driving home from a client meeting in his Mercedes. Or because of a plane crash. Or because of a global warming -induced food crisis. And also try not to think about the not-quite-as-bad but still bad thoughts about how to materially support these boys in the future.

So anyway, back to working on being happier…

We went to the Ferris Wheel park and went on the Ferris Wheel. Kids liked it. It was nice. Then went on the merry-go-round several times. We went on the Ghost Ship too. A little disappointing to me because we needed to spend extra money for that “area” and I didn’t think it was all that… not like that haunted house in the Balboa Park museum I went to when I was 11 years old. But Kenaz got pretty freaked out and cried a little.

At night Haga prepared a Sushi hand-roll party. Which was great.

And after dinner, we had ice-cream cake.

Just FYI, earlier in the day we attended the kids Student-Led Conference. At their school, twice a year (I think…maybe every quarter), the kids are supposed to lead a conference with the parents to show what they have done. Akiva’s was an hour long, but Kenaz’s session was only a 1/2 hour. Below are some clips of them mainly showing us their portfolios.
